I got a Urinary Tract Infection what are those?

Have you ever woken up bright and early in the morning, headed to the washroom to relive yourself and you focus on doing your thing but for whatever reason you still feel like you need to go?

Yeah that sucks, just like you and every other girl I sure know how that feels. So, here’s what you should know about UTIs, why you get them and how to get rid of it.

Oh, look at me spewing big words, without sharing the crux of the meat, UTI is an acronym or AKA for Urinary Tract Infection; these are infections that affect any part of the urinary system which includes the bladder, urethra and in severe cases the kidney.

Why do I get Urinary Tract Infection?

Urinary Tract Infection are infections and just like every infection is caused by bacteria, the urethra which is the passing that takes urine from the bladder outside the body is mighty close to the anus. This increases the risk of bacteria from the anus going into the urethra and then the bladder if left untreated; remember the advice to wipe from front to back? Well here’s why.

There is a myth that Urinary Tract Infections happen because you have too much sex, well sorry to burst your bubble but that’s not why. However having lots of sex and more than one sexual partners can increase the possibility of having one they are also called “honeymoon cystitis’.

If you get a UTI more than once, don’t feel weird; you aren’t alone. UTIs are so common 1 in 2 women get UTI’s as opposed to 1 in 10 men.

How do I know I have got one?

UTIs are self-diagnoseable but in some rare cases you may need to get screened for proper diagnosis. But here’s how to know if your after-peeing discomfort is indeed UTI

  •  A burning feeling and discomfort when you pee
  •  A persistent urge to pee, even after you just peed
  • Frequent urination with very little pee coming out.
  • Pain in your lower back or abdomen

How do I get rid of it?

I asked a few ladies how they got rid of UTIs and here are their responses;

Q: Have you ever had a UTI? How long did it last and how did you get rid of it?

Agnes

“who hasn’t had a UTI?” The most common type of UTI is called Candida and is caused by foreign flora being introduced to the vagina. This foreign flora can be introduced via dirty toilets, nylon/polyester underwear” (beware ladies). When I had one, it lasted for a week and I got rid of it by taking antibiotics.

I first had a UTI when I was 14 and I got rid of it by taking antibiotics and drinking lots of cranberry juice.

Marianne

I didn’t take any medication when I had a UTI, I didn’t even know what it was until 2 years later and I had no money to treat it”. So it went away on its own but now that I know better, I know I should have gone to see a professional”.

Yes I have, make sure to take antibiotics and complete your dosage whenever you have a UTI, to prevent nasty bacterials from spreading and becoming immune to antibiotics”.

UTI’s are the worse, they hurt like a bitch. The only thing that can cure a UTI is antibiotic and not every kind, it depends on the kind of bacteria too. When I had one it lasted for about 3 days because I knew what it was and how to get rid of it”.

Jane

I have had a UTI twice, the first time was nasty, I didn’t even know what it was but google to the rescue. I just drank lots of water and let it run its course. The second time was a few months ago, it lasted 2 days and I didn’t take any medication as well, I just drank lots of water.

Toke

Yes I have, it lasted for a week and I used Mycoten tablet (inserter) and the dream to get rid of it.

After you try all this and it still won’t let up, you need to see a doctor to get proper diagnosis and treatment.

How to have tons of sex and not get a UTI

  •  Make sure to pee before and after you have sex.
  •  Keep your anus and genitals clean before and after sex.
  • Stay hydrated and drink a lot of water, this will keep your urinary tract rid of any bacteria.
  • Don’t use a diaphragm or spermicide as your form of birth control.

Note: Men can also get UTI from having sex so make sure you and your partner are keeping your genitals squeaky clean and limiting interactions between your anus and vagina/penis.

WEARING a CONDOM can also reduce risks.
